A Little Bit About Us
Formed in early October of 2001 by April Daia and Albert Brian who were later joined by drummer Chez Bryan Ong. The New York City based trio began working on material shaping the melodic, mood driven sound they've become known for. Ed Lin and Katherine Alcazar complete the five piece must-see band.
In mid February 2002 the band recorded 2 tracks "Underworld Anthem" and "April's Song". On March 12th, 2002 the band was able to share thier music with an audience for the first time at New York's Acme Underground. Since then, they've been playing music for a growing fan base. They released their self-titled debut CD in early January 2003, and are currently workng on their second CD.
April Daia Vox & Guitar
At a younger age, I took piano lessons and even tried out the flute and harmonica, but I never got better at any of them. I received my first acoustic guitar on my 16th birthday and taught myself how to play it and gave music another try. Singing didn't come naturally for me, but belting out songs on the karaoke channel back in the Philippines was what I called practice. Performing live did not even come to mind until I joined my first band. We were a five-piece, all-girl band rockin' out to Cranberries' tunes. When I moved to New York City, I didn't have anyone to play music with, but meeting the 2 Bri(y)ans at FIT changed all that, thus the birth of Raven Steals the Lght.
Born in the age when roses were made of stone and boys didnt cry. 92.7 WDRE was the voice and z100 was still the zoo. I picked up a guitar that played better than I did. Heard a song I wanted to write but ended up in art school. Print paper pen later I finally hooked up with a band that played just as good as I did and here we are lightless artists. Enjoy what you hear and know what you write the best things in life are free and knowing is half the battle yada yada yada frankie sez RELAX...and are you still reading this?
Katherine Alcazar Guitar
I am ashamed to type this down but Daniel Johns of Silverchair actually influenced me to play guitar back in high school. I no longer like them but I can still remember how it made me a new person. Gawd, I hate writing bios. RSTL is my very first band. I love these guys cos they have great patience with me even though I joined and quit the band like how many times? I've lost track. Plus, I am kinda tone deaf but I can play... just watch.
Ed Lin Bass
I wanted to play bass ever since John Entwistle's lines rumbled my crummy stereo speakers in "The Kids Are Alright" by the Who. Also because Sid Vicious "played" bass and made it look cool. My first bass was a Peavy T-40. It weighed like 30 pounds -- you could break down doors with that thing. I recently switched from a Fender Precision to a Gibson EB0. Yeah, so what, right? My first novel, Waylaid, was published in June 2002. It's loosely based on my childhood of renting out rooms to johns and hookers at my parents' sleazy hotel. I like old Macs, vinyl records, obsolete video games, and hard-boiled fiction. Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore!
Chez Bryan Ong Drums
I've been playing drums since 1988. My biggest influences include Neil Peart, Dave Abbruzzese, Tim Alexander, Vinnie Coliuta, Chad Smith, Carter Beauford, Jimmy Chamberlain, Steven Adler, and playing with the Crimson Kings Drum, Fife, & Bugle Corps. I'd like to thank Mike Tam, Buckley Lee, King Lee, Dwayne, Mr. Garcia and Mr. Jones for taking the time to teach me music first hand.
We'd also like to say "Hi!" and "Thanks!" to Irvin Inigo (former bassist/guitarist), Mike Greisser (fomer bassist), Mark deLeon (former guitarist), James Palugod (former guitarist), Bonnie Sanchez (former guitarist) and Jaime Ryder (former keyboardist).
